Pride: 40 Years of Protest & Celebration
Fenway Health is a proud sponsor of the Pride: 40 Years of Protest & Celebration exhibit organized by The History Project and The Boston Center for Adult Education (BCAE). On display at the BCAE’s 122 Arlington Street location in Boston, the exhibit traces the development of Pride in Boston from a sparsely attended protest against the Vietnam War to a massive celebration drawing hundreds of thousands of participants and spectators each June. Accompanying Pride: 40 Years of Protest & Celebration will be Fierce Pride 1992, an exhibition of portraits taken during the 1992 Pride celebrations by photographer Joel Benjamin. Both shows run from May 15 – June 30 and may be viewed by the public between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.
On Friday, May 18 from 6 to 8 p.m., the BCAE will host Sip the Rainbow, an opening reception for Pride: 40 Years of Protest & Celebration. Participating mixologists will each create a unique cocktail in a color from the LGBT Pride flag. Tickets to this opening reception are $10 each and must be purchased in advance online.

Show your pride with Fenway
Warmer weather heralds the start of LGBT Pride celebrations in many places, including right here in Boston, which kicks things off with Massachusetts Youth Pride on Boston Common, May 19. Fenway Health, The Fenway Institute and the Sidney Borum, Jr. Health Center will all be in attendance, supporting LGBT youth and letting them know about services and programs that can help them live happier, healthier lives. Look for us if you’re going to be there, too!
Then, June 9 brings us Boston’s LGBT Pride Parade and Festival, which draws hundreds of thousands of participants and spectators to Boston to celebrate. Fenway will have a float in the Parade and a booth at the Festival, and we want YOU to march with us and to volunteer time at the booth or help constructing our float. We’ll have more details about all of that in the June issue of Fenway Focus, which will be arriving about a week before Pride. In the meantime, you can learn more and sign up to march or help out on Facebook, or you can call 617.927.6498 or email fenwaypride@fenwayhealth.org.
