Fenway Focus

From Our President

September marks the start of the school year for many students, and that is certainly true in Boston, a city home to so many prestigious colleges and universities. Here at Fenway, we are welcoming a new group of optometry and behavioral health interns, joining our medical and dental students who started earlier this summer. All of them are eager to learn how to care for the communities we serve. The arrival of these students brings fresh energy to the city and to Fenway. Read more.

Updating our web site

On September 10, we debuted an updated look and layout for our main web site, fenwayhealth.org.  We also reorganized the site’s navigation so that hopefully it is easier to find the information you need.  Check it out when you have a chance and drop us a line at information@fenwayhealth.org to let us know what you think!

1340 Boylston construction update

Construction continues on the build out of the 4th, 5th and 6th floors at 1340 Boylston Street.  When finished later this fall, there'll be two more floors of medical and research space as well as an expanded dental department.  As you've probably read earlier, we'll be adding critical services such as on-site mammograms and digital imaging on the 4th floor and dedicating an additional floor to the rapidly expanding work of The Fenway Institute.  We've posted some pictures of the work in progress on our Fenway Focus blog, where we'll also be posting updates on how the expansion is progressing.

14th Annual Audre Lorde Cancer Awareness Brunch

The annual Audre Lorde Cancer Awareness Brunch is a celebration for women whose lives have been affected by cancer and their supporters. We gather together to connect with old and new sisters; to learn about cancer-related issues facing women; and to nourish our bodies, minds, and spirits. This year’s theme is Sharing Stories to Build Community: “Nurturing the creative parts of each other.” The event program will feature a keynote address by Dean Renée White of Simmons College, a performance by spoken word poet Ashley Rose Salomon and a presentation of Healthy Steps, an exercise and movement program designed for cancer patients and survivors.

The 14th annual Audre Lorde Cancer Awareness Brunch takes place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, October 27 at Fenway Health’s Ansin Building location at 1340 Boylston Street. Learn more and RSVP here.

PHILANTHROPY CORNER

Harbor to the Bay Saturday, September 15

Harbor to the Bay is now just a few days away, and this year’s 10th Anniversary Ride on September 15 is shaping up to be the most successful one yet. Over 75 riders and 35 crew members have committed themselves to supporting the work of Fenway Health by riding from Boston to Provincetown — together they have raised over $100,000! We are so grateful for their dedication to riding, fundraising, and making a difference for the 1,700 HIV-positive patients that depend on Fenway Health for their care.  Harbor to the Bay is an all-volunteer event, meaning 100% of donations go directly to the participating beneficiaries. Your donation will directly support the many patients who depend on Fenway Health for quality health care, medications, support, and HIV/AIDS prevention education.

A word from one of our sponsors

Fidelity Investments believes our culture of diversity and inclusion makes us more effective in serving our customers, developing our associates and strengthening our communities. We recognize the value that associates’ individual differences contribute to the success and growth of our company, and promote an environment that embraces collaboration, innovation, and service. Harnessing the power of diversity supports our market leadership – now and into the future.

One of the hallmarks of our Diversity efforts are Employee Resource Groups.  These self-organized groups have engaged large segments of associates and strengthened their sense of inclusion and connection with Fidelity.  Each ERG has a senior executive sponsor who promotes and champions the group and its members.  Currently almost 6,000 employees participate in Fidelity ERGs across all of our regions.  The groups are as follows:  Asian Employee Resource Group;  Aspire (our Black/Latino ERG); Veteran Employee Resource Group; Women’s Networking Group; and Fidelity Pride (our LGBT ERG).  Fidelity Pride was our first resource group established in 1999.  Today over 500 strong this group has focused on creating a safe and inclusive environment for all of our LGBT employees.

For the past 12 years Fidelity has been a proud sponsor of Fenway Health and many of our employees have participated and volunteered at Fenway events and activities during that time.  We applaud Fenway for all of the great work they have done in supporting the LGBT community and beyond.
