On May 12 and June 1, 2011, Fenway Health, in collaboration with the Multicultural AIDS Coalition and the Sylvie Ratelle Prevention and Training Center of New England, offered CME/CEU trainings to clinicians, health educators, and researchers on the topic of HIV Prevention in Primary Care for Gay and Bisexual Men and other Men who have Sex with Men. The May 12 training focused on the epidemiology of HIV infection and testing in Massachusetts and nationally, as well as behavioral factors that increase and protect against risk. The presenters also provided strategies for creating a welcoming environment for LGBT people, and gave up-to-date information on HIV testing and counseling.
The June 1 training focused on HIV prevention in the clinical setting for Black and Latino MSM. Our speakers focused on the intersection of race and sexual identity and its implications for clinicians, and provided research-based recommendations for engaging Black and Latino MSM in the clinical setting. The talks ended with case studies that prompted thinking about counseling and testing and referral to care.
