Learning Modules on LGBT Health
The Learning Modules on LGBT Health were created to help facilitate the teaching of LGBT health topics to health professionals and students. You can download the modules from this website and use them in your courses, trainings, workshops, or for self-directed learning. We recommend the modules be used as companions to our textbook, the Fenway Guide to Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Health, which provides more detailed content on these topics. The Fenway Guide is available from the American College of Physicians and Amazon.com. However, the modules can be used as stand-alone teaching tools as well.
Using the Modules The Learning Modules presentations are in PowerPoint format. The handouts are in PDF format (you will need Adobe Acrobat Reader).
If you have trouble downloading or using the modules, please email us.
Feedback We want the modules to be as useful to the community as possible, so please send us your questions, comments, and suggestions: professionaleducation@fenwayhealth.org
You can adapt the Learning Modules for local use by adding your own slides or deleting the slides you do not need. However, we ask that you preserve the content and format of the slides you keep. All slides are copyright protected.

Knowing Your Patients: Taking a History and Providing Risk Reduction Counseling
|
| Module 2 explains how to take a history that is inclusive of all patients, and how to tailor the history for LGBT patients. Because the sexual history (including behavior, identity, and desires) is often overlooked by clinicians and is a topic that is generally not well covered in professional schools, the module goes into detail on how to take a sexual history that is thorough and sensitive without being awkward. The module concludes with some tips on how to provide relevant sexual risk reduction counseling. |
