EYE CARE SERVICES

Welcome to Fenway Health's Eye Care Department under the direction of Dr. David Lampariello.  We are committed to providing the highest quality, comprehensive eye care for our patients in a comfortable, caring, and compassionate environment.  Our goal is to keep our patients seeing the best they can and to keep their eyes healthy throughout their lives.

Comprehensive eye exams are an important part of preventative health care.  Our doctors provide eye exams using the newest and most advanced diagnostic equipment for eye disease available.  We listen to your concerns about your eyes and offer suggestions on how to keep your eyes healthy.

In addition to comprehensive eye exams, we manage and treat most eye conditions and diseases.  We have a large contact lens service with a wide variety of services available to our patients including fittings with rigid gas permeable, toric and bifocal contact lenses.  Our contact lens specialist, Dr. Kelly Blake completed a residency in specialty contact lens fitting and is experienced in fitting the more complicated patients including those with corneal disorders such as keratoconus, pellucid marginal degeneration and corneal transplants.

The eye care providers at Fenway Health have many years of experience in refractive surgery and currently co-manage patients with TLC laser eye centers. They are available to discuss LASIK and other refractive surgery options as well as provide patients with pre- and post-operative care.  We also offer low vision, pediatric and eyeglass services.

We also invite you to visit our beautiful optical shop located on the 6th floor and meet our experienced licensed optician, Debra Quinn, who will help you choose frames that make you look great as well as lenses that best suit your visual needs.  We carry the latest in stylish eyewear and sunglasses from designers such as Calvin Klein, Sean John, Michael Kors, L.A. Eyeworks, Prada, Dolce and Gabanna, Ray-Ban, Guess and many more to keep you looking and seeing great, all at very competitive prices.  You will find the relaxed and friendly atmosphere a perfect place to discuss your eyewear needs.  We also accept valid prescriptions you may have received from your own eye doctor.

The Importance of UV Eye Protection

Now that Spring and Summer are upon us there is a great need to protect the eyes from the Sun.  We are exposed to ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun on a daily basis whether it is sunny, cloudy and despite the season. UV radiation is invisible to the eye so we may not realize this.

Sun damages your skin in multiple ways that may include burning, wrinkling, skin cancer, and premature aging. The sun can be just as harmful on the eyes. Too much unprotected sun exposure to ultraviolet radiation (UV) can cause photokeratitis. This is similar to a skin sunburn but affecting the corneas.  Symptoms include pain, redness, watering, light sensitivity and decrease in vision.   These symptoms usually clear up quickly and cause no permanent damage to the eye.

However, unprotected sun/UV exposure over long periods of time will damage the eye and the affects can be permanent and blinding. Exposure greatly increases the risk of cataracts, damage to the retina/macular degeneration and skin cancer around the eye.  Both conditions can seriously impair vision and in most cases is rarely reversible.

Furthermore, damage from harmful UVA and UVB radiation is cumulative over our lifetime (therefore, important to protect our eyes in all light conditions and daily) and does contribute to serious age-related eye disease and to sensitive skin around the eye.

Fortunately damage can be prevented by wearing sunglasses with UV eye protection. Protecting your eyes and your children’s eyes from the effects of UV rays is very easy.  Wear sunglasses with 100% UV protection.  This is the best way to shield your eyes from the damaging sun.

So, check out our large, fashionable and always changing selection of frames and sunglasses from various designers such as  Persol, Calvin Klein, Giorgio Armani, Ted Baker, Paul Smith, Michael Kors, L.A. Eyeworks, Prada, Dolce and Gabanna, Ray-Ban, Guess, Nike, Lacoste, Nautica , Eco  and many others.

Have a Happy and safe summer season 2013!
